Shakin' Up the Routine

I am not, nor have I ever been "a morning person" but year's ago I accepted the fact that most of the races and events I enjoyed required early wake-ups. No problem, as long as my weekly workouts could be in the afternoon.

Ah, but life changes .. as it is want to do... and today I found myself up at 5AM to do my Core Exercises since I knew that my evening was already booked with plans unrelated to Endurance.

5AM is DAMN EARLY! How do you guys do this on a regular basis?

For this week, I will wake at 5AM again on Wednesday and Friday for more Core Exercises and leave Tues and Thurs as afternoon workouts. How many weeks does it take to make a new habit?

I am curious ... When do you work out?

Living STRONG (and remarkably awake!)

I normally workout in the morning or lunchtime. Evening workouts almost always end up in the missed category.

One person asked how I got all my training in, as he was having a tough time finding time to train for a marathon. My reply: "5 AM."

I will NEVER work out at 5am. There's only one 5 o'clock in my day. Later in the morning is ok. My swim class is at 10:15, but I prefer afternoons.

I'm mostly a night person, but I go through phases where I'll do morning swim or strength workouts in addition to evening cardio.

Except weekends. Morning cardio on weekends.

I'm so mixed up.

Ugh, 3-4 3AM wakeups in a row this weekend! I'm beat!

Love your new header!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not at 5am-unless it's spring. I love morning, but I am trying to do more evenings for mental training. Working out when I'm tired from the day is hard.

Wake up at 6 am. I usually do a swim in the morning before work.

Most of the workouts are done after work.

wow 5am is hard core!

I usually wake up at 6:15. At the gym by 7(ish).

I'm with Linae... If I don't get it done in the am, it's gone.

Good on you!

I started waking up between 4-5 am when my kids were babies. It was the only way I could enjoy my coffee and newpaper in peace.
My body adjusted over the years, and now, no matter where I am, my internal clock wakes me up then. I love running as the sun is coming up and most people are asleep. It's a great feeling of accomplishment! Of course, I do fall asleep by 8:30-9:00pm!!!

Congrats on your "most inspirational award" from the Kahuna by the way!
I have been getting up at 5 A.M. probably most of my adult life, so it isn't really any big deal anymore. Sleeping in for me is 6:30 on the weekends. I guess I am more of a morning person. It's nice to get a run in early as after teaching all day I have little left...somehow swim better in P.M. and can force myself to get on a bike in the afternoon also. Good to meet you and I will add you to my Allaiance list! :-)

Congratulations on your most inspirational tri-blogger award!

I get up at 5am... but that means I go to bed at 8pm. So much for night life, eh?

I'm so glad you won the Bloggie! I was rooting for you.

I work out in the "morning" - that is qualified because I can't even pretend to claim I work out in the pre-dawn hours so many of you rockin' folks do. I'm a writer, I work from home, I don't have kids yet... I get up around 8 and am at the gym around 9:30.

I do my best creative work in the afternoon and evening, so I argue that this is my productive activity for my AM, pre-meds zombie hours... but there's a heathly dose of BS in that. I'm spoiled rotten and I know it.

"Sleeping In" for me is anytime after 7:30, but I still wake up slowly with a book or by reading blogs. I've been trying to talk myself into early morning workouts for years, but still do my best later in the day. I'm just fine with runs between 7 and 9 pm, and long weekend runs at around noon.

I have a feeling, though, that if I'm to get in enough marathon training mileage this spring, I'm going to have to adjust that inner body clock to an earlier rhythm.
